Annual SPICE Dinner finds a Pot O’Gold

< Back to News & Photos Page

For over 15 years the SPICE St. Patrick’s Day Dinner has brought the warmth of spring to St. Catharine. With its spirited atmosphere, incredible food, and fantastic entertainment—all with the mission of raising awareness for SPICE and to support the needs of our students—this year’s event was truly one for the record books with over 300 in attendance! Class parents outdid themselves creating phenomenal themed baskets for the silent auction, there were awesome raffle items from donors throughout our community, and the teachers generously got in on the act by providing the always-popular “gifts from the heart”, such as special lunches out or additional recess time. However, it was a new feature—Fill the Pot o’ Gold!, a fast-paced fundraiser, that really had everyone feeling the Irish spirit. Initially the goal was to raise $2500 to purchase an “active learning” classroom package requested by Mrs. Weisner to promote the benefits between movement and learning that research recommends. Instead, in just 10 exhilarating minutes, that initial goal was surpassed and nearly $22,000 was raised! It was a magical evening that proved success is measured not only in dollars and cents, but also in the joy that comes from supporting God’s call to help one another. Special thanks to the army of volunteers who worked tirelessly to bring the event to life, and thank you to all who attended—we look forward to next year! God bless the Irish!
