Spotlight Family – The Mackessy Family

< Back to Spotlight Family Page

Each quarter we’ll introduce a school family so they can share what they love about being a part of the St. Catharine School community. Whenever we can learn more about each other, the circle of faith and fellowship in our school grows! If you are interested in being a Spotlight Family, please email info@stcathschool.com.

As this school year comes to a close, we would like to introduce the Mackessy Family.  Jim and Peggy have sent their seven children to St. Catharine School.  Kelly (2003), Megan(2005) now married to Tyler, Michael (2007), Molly (2009), Danny (2011), Emma, (2014) and this year their youngest, Katie, will be graduating.  We are so privileged that they have shared their reflections over the past 24 years.

Thank You!

Q. What brought your family to St Catharine School?

A. We were members of St. Catharine Parish and appreciated the benefits of a Catholic Education

Q. What are some of your favorite traditions or memories of St Catharine School?

A. First day of school coffee and donuts, Kindergarten Q&U wedding, First Communion and Reconciliation, Confirmation, volunteering in the cafeteria, weaving on the loom with the Kindergarten class, field trips, Christmas plays, Field Day, School Masses, Dads’ Eight Grade Breakfast, sports, Girl Scouts, and  Eighth Grade just to name a few !

Q. What advice can you offer to newer families who are looking for ways to get more involved at the school?

A. Jump in to anything you can!!! If you don’t see opportunities, ask!! They will find a way to help you get involved.  This is the perfect way to get to know people and become a part of the fabric of St. Catharine School.

Q. In what ways have you seen the school community evolve over the past 24 years?

A. We now have computers, SPICE, Art, Spanish, a fabulous music program, preschool, and upgraded playground equipment.

Q. How has your family life benefited from being a part of the St Catharine Community?

A. Our children received a great start to their educations!  We have 2 about to finish Graduate School and 2 working adults.  The other 3 are moving through school nicely.  Our family faith life has been so beautifully nurtured at St. Catharine. As often as possible we gather for Mass and dinner on Sunday nights.

We have been truly blessed by being members of St. Catharine School and Parish.
